Leopoldo Torres Agüero was born in Buenos Aires in 1924 and passed away in París in 1995 whilst acting as Argentine Ambassador to UNESCO. His artwork has been exhibited since 1939 in solo exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, the USA, Mexico, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Japan. He lived in Japan from 1959 to 1961, an experience which clearly influenced the turn towards abstraction that we see in his later works. His production can be divided into three periods: his early work being figurative, turning later to lyrical abstraction and finally to sensitive geometry. In this last period, the beauty of colour and sensitivity of line are of particular note.
