Vermont óleos de Sofía Wiñazki

Vermont,
la cuarta muestra individual de Sofía Wiñazki en Galería Mar Dulce, presenta una
serie de óleos producidos a partir de su residencia en Vermont Studio Center, a
pocos kilómetros de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y Canadá, en febrero de
este año.
“El mes de febrero
en Vermont es pleno invierno. Cuando Sofía Wiñazki llegó desde el verano de
Buenos Aires, el paisaje helado creó un golpe para sus sentidos. Se podía ver a
Sofía caminando afuera en todas direcciones, explorando los numerosos senderos,
puentes, ríos, colinas y campos, todos cubiertos entre hielo y nieve. Su
primera pintura fue una cascada congelada. Regresó muchas veces al mismo sitio
para observar, a medida que la temperatura subía, el hielo que comenzaba a
desprenderse, para finalmente ver como todo aquello se deshacía en grandes pedazos
que se perdían con la corriente del río. El paisaje y el modo en que este se
modificaba se volvieron el tema de sus obras. Sofía acostumbraba trabajar con
pasteles y carbonilla en sus obras anteriores, pero para esta serie volvió al
óleo. Con habilidad, logra representar la línea de los árboles, las ramas, las
grietas del hielo que alternan muy bien con la suavidad de la nieve y la
sutileza de las sombras. El cambio de material y de paisaje junto con la
distancia con su tierra natal le otorgó una posición única para observar, ante
un intrincado y novedoso paisaje, el discurrir del tiempo. A veces el mejor

Sofía
Wiñazki nació en 1985, en
Caseros, Buenos Aires. Estudió Artes Visuales en el IUNA y dibujo y pintura con
Patricio Larrambebere. En 2011 y 2012 concurrió al taller de dibujo de Eduardo
Stupía en la Universidad Di Tella. En 2016 participó del Programa de Artistas
Proyecto PAC (Prácticas Artísticas Contemporáneas). Realizó
muestras individuales en Galería Mar Dulce (2017-2015-2014), Punto Kiwi (2017),
Praxis (2015) y en Naranja Verde (2013). Participó de muestras colectivas en
Zavaleta, Naranja Verde, Galería Mar Dulce, Centro Cultural Parque España
(Rosario), Paseo Quinta Trabucco, Delta Libros, Centro Cultural Borges y en
arteBA en la galería Chez Vautier. Fue seleccionada por Vermont Studio Center
para realizar una residencia durante febrero de 2018. En 2017 recibió una beca
de formación del FNA (Fondo Nacional de las Artes). Participó en el Premio
Fundación Williams 2012, en las ediciones 2007 y 2009 de Proyecto A y en las
ediciones 2008 y 2009 de “Joven y efímero” en el Centro Cultural Parque de
España (Rosario). Fue docente
de la cátedra de dibujo de Carlos Fels (IUNA) entre 2008 y 2010. Vive y trabaja en Buenos Aires.
Galería Mar Dulce se
especializa en obras de pequeño y mediano formato de pintura, dibujo, grabado,
libros de artista y objetos, realizadas por artistas rioplatenses clásicos y
contemporáneos. Junto a Vermont
presentamos +COLECTIVA53, una curaduría de obras realizadas por otros
artistas de la galería.

Vermont, Sofía Wiñazki's
fourth solo show at Galería Mar Dulce, presents a series of oil paintings
produced during and following her residence at Vermont Studio Center, just a
few kilometres from the US-Canada border, in February of this year.
"February in Vermont is peak wintertime. When Sofia
Wiñazki made her travels from summer in Buenos Aires, the frozen landscape was
a shock to her senses. She
could be seen outside walking in all directions, exploring the various
pathways, bridges, rivers, hills and fields, all covered in snow and ice. Her
first painting was of a nearby frozen waterfall. She would return several times
to the spot to observe the ice beginning to crack as temperatures started to rise,
and then its final melt where large chunks of the ice broke off to continue
down the river. The landscape and the way it shifted became the subject of her
paintings. While Sofia had primarily used pastel and charcoal on paper in
previous works, she now shifted to oil paint. Her draftsmanship comes across in
the exacting
line-work of trees, branches, and cracked ice that play on top of the softness
of fresh snow and subtle shadows. The
departure
of material, landscape, and the distance from home provided a unique
position to observe the passage of time in an intricate new environment.

Sofía Wiñazki was born in 1985, in Caseros, Buenos Aires. She
studied Visual Arts at the IUNA and drawing and painting with Patricio
Larrambebere. In 2011 and 2012 ahe attended Eduardo Stupía's drawing workshop
at the Di Tella University. In 2016 she participated in the PAC (Contemporary
Artistic Practices) Project. She has had solo exhibitions at Galería Mar Dulce
(2017-2015-2014), Punto Kiwi (2017), Praxis (2015) and Naranja Verde (2013) and
has participated in group shows in Zavaleta, Naranja Verde, Galería Mar Dulce,
Parque España Cultural Center (Rosario), Quinta Trabucco Walk, Delta Books,
Borges Cultural Center and arteBA with Chez Vautier Gallery. She was selected
by Vermont Studio Center for residency in February 2018. In 2017 she received a
development grant from the FNA (National Fund for the Arts). She participated
in the 2012 Williams Foundation Award, in the 2007 and 2009 editions of Project
A and in the 2008 and 2009 editions of "Joven y efímero" at the
Parque de España Cultural Center (Rosario). She taught drawing under Carlos
Fels in the IUNA between 2008 and 2010. She lives and works in Buenos Aires.
Galería Mar Dulce specialises in small
and medium format artwork in painting, drawing, print, photography, artists’
books and objects, produced by classic and contemporary Argentine artists. To

a specially curated selection of works by other artists from the gallery.
