“Siempre que leemos un libro quedan
latiendo imágenes, palabras, pequeños diálogos. Leí muchas veces Alicia y cada
lectura me genera una sensación distinta. A veces es serenidad, otras angustia,
opresión, simpatía, tedio, asombro, como todas las manifestaciones de la vida.
En cada lectura se fue disolviendo la trama, desaparece la historia, el mapa de
palabras por donde circula Alicia y sus protagonistas, se convierte en imágenes. Y como los jirones de un sueño
rescatado del olvido las escenas aparecen en mi imaginación como iluminadas por
un relámpago en la espesura de un bosque.
El
bosque es el telón de fondo donde los personajes ejecutan una danza que nos
subyuga. Estas aventuras que parecen arbitrarias encierran el rigor del
ajedrez. Siento que este relato de Carroll, es una entrada secreta a mi propio
inconsciente, con sus paradojas de orden lógico y metafísico, esa entrada de
Alicia al mundo subterráneo, onírico reino de las raíces, árboles cuyos troncos
con sus puertas y conexiones a espléndidos jardines donde suceden las más
absurdas escenas, y Alicia creciendo por las ramas hacia las alturas conectada
con los pájaros y atraída por la luz del cielo. Es casi un sueño, como ese
donde Alicia sueña con el Rey Rojo, que está soñándola, y alguien le advierte
que si el rey despierta, ella se apagará como una vela.
Lewis Carroll creó con
genio literario un universo que el ilustrador Teniell complementó de manera
magistral, a pesar de que en su momento esos dibujos no le gustaban a Carroll.
Imágenes hoy tan adheridas al relato que no dudo en afirmar que fueron mi punto
de partida, mis alas que impulsaron el vuelo. A lo largo de los años muchos
artistas han abordado esta fantástica aventura, esta es mi visión.” Marta Vicente, 2016
En Mundo Alicia, su primera
exposición individual en Galería Mar Dulce, Marta Vicente presenta unas 20
obras en acrílico
sobre tela y en carbonilla & lápiz color.
Marta
Vicente
nació en Mendoza, Argentina. Su primer contacto con el arte fue en el taller de
su padre Mario Vicente, artista grabador. Se licenció en la Facultad de Artes
de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. Pintura, dibujo, ilustración, historieta y
objetos, conforman el cuerpo de trabajo de la artista argentina. Ha expuesto
individualmente numerosas veces tanto en Argentina como en el exterior, en
España, México y Chile. Entre las que se destacan: Galería Ángelus 1995;
Galería Amicitia 1998; Pequeña Galería, Asunción Paraguay, Galería Ática 2002; El Cuento Pintado, Centro Cultural
Recoleta 2007; Museo de Chacras de Coria 2007, Mendoza; Centro Cultural Roberto
Fontanarrosa, Rosario, Santa Fe 2008; Niñas,
Galería de arte contemporáneo Asunto Impreso, Buenos Aires, 2010; Galería R
Cox Santiago de Chile, 2012; El Bosque y
la Luna, Galería de Arte Alejandro Bustillo, Buenos Aires 2014. Realizó
varios libros ilustrados en Argentina, México y España. En 2003 el Fondo de
Cultura Económica le otorgó el Premio A
la orilla del Viento por su libro La
cajita. En el 2006 su libro Adelaida
(Brosquil y Libros del Zorro Rojo) fue nominado por la White Ravens 2006, donde
se elijen los 250 libros infantiles mejores del mundo. En el 2007 su libro Pulgarcita (Fondo de Cultura Económica)
fue nominado por el Banco del Libro de Venezuela como uno de los mejores libros
del año. Publicó libros para Océano Travesía de España, entre los que se
cuentan su versión urbana de Patito Feo.
En Argentina, Pípala de Adriana Hidalgo publicó Niñas con textos de Jimena Néspolo. En el 2016 prepara su libro Mundo Alicia que será publicado en
Francia y Argentina. Actualmente vive y trabaja en sus talleres de Mendoza y
Buenos Aires.
Galería Mar Dulce se especializa en obras de pequeño y mediano formato de
pintura, dibujo, grabado, fotografía, libros de artista y objetos, realizadas
por artistas rioplatenses clásicos y contemporáneos. Junto a Mundo
Alicia presentamos +COLECTIVA39,
una curaduria de obras realizadas por Andy Mermet, Sofía Wiñazki,
Lucila Biscione, Ral Veroni, Daniel García, María Luque, Sofía Alvarez Watson,
Johanna Wilhelm, Isol, María Elina, Decur y Cristian Turdera.

Alice’s World, new works by Marta Vicente

“Whenever we read a book, certain images, words or dialogues
remain with us. I have read Alice many times and each reading generates a
different sensation in me. At times it's serenity; at others it's anxiety,
oppression, sympathy, tedium, surprise…. all the manifestations of life. With
each reading the plot dissolves, the story disappears and the map of words in
which Alice and the other protagonists circulate is transformed into images.
Like flashes of a dream rescued from oblivion, the scenes appear in my
imagination as if illuminated by a lightening strike in the depths of a forest.
A forest that reveals them only momentarily before once again enveloping them
in its darkness.
The forest is a backdrop where the characters enact a dance
that evades us. The adventures that appear arbitrary, in reality contain all
the rigour of chess. I feel that Carroll's tale is a secret entrance to my own
unconscience, with its paradoxes of order, logic and metaphysics. Alice enters
the underground world: that oniric kingdom of roots, trees whose trunks hold
doors and connections to splendid gardens where the most absurd scenes unfold.
Alice grows up through the branches towards the heights, connected to the birds
and attracted by the light of the sky. It's all almost a dream, like Alices's
dream of the Red King: he's sleeping and someone warns her that if he awakens,
she will be extinguished like a candle.
The literary genius of Lewis Carroll created
a universe that the illustrator Teniell complemented magestically, although at
the time Carroll didn't like his drawings. Today, the images are so
inextricably linked to the tale that I don't doubt to confirm that they were my
point of departure, the wings that impulsed my flight. Throughout the years,

In Alice’s World, her first solo exhibition in Galería Mar Dulce, Marta
Vicente will present some 20 works in acrylic on canvas and charcoal and pencil
on paper.
Marta Vicente was born in Mendoza,
Argentina. Her first contact with art was in the studio of her father, the
artist and printmaker Mario Vicente. She studied Fine Art at the Universidad
Nacional de Cuyo. Painting, drawing, illustration, cartoon and objects come
together to form the body of work of this Argentine artista. She has had
numerous solo exhibitions, both in Argentina and abroad - in Spain, Mexico and
Chile - the most notable of which include: Galería Ángelus 1995; Galería
Amicitia 1998; Pequeña Galería, Asunción Paraguay, Galería Ática 2002; El Cuento Pintado, Centro Cultural
Recoleta 2007; Museo de Chacras de Coria 2007, Mendoza; Centro Cultural Roberto

produced various illustrated books in Argentina, Mexico and Spain. In 2003 the

Galería Mar Dulce specialises in
small and medium format artwork in painting, drawing, print, photography,
artists’ books and objects, produced by classic and contemporary Argentine
artists. To accompany Alice’s World we present +COLLECTIVE39, a specially curated selection of Works by Andy
