En la obra de Johanna Wilhelm el calado abre paso a una mirada. El pleno deja de ser pleno a través de los espacios que guían y construyen un recorrido rico y diverso. Forma y transforma un universo infinito, compuesto por luces y sombras. La obra es el recorte que dejó el vacío, es la forma que se llenó de luz para poder proyectarse. Eso mismo que somos, construidos a través de la oscuridad. Cuando se vuelve oscuro, cuando no podemos ver, desprovistos de imágenes, con la mirada entrecerrada, casi en penumbras, comenzamos a abrirnos. Aquello que se perdió, se regenera con un sentido enceguecedor. Como ríos, las  líneas se transforman en plenos, se vuelven hojas, pájaros, flores, cortezas, ramas, eco y sonido. En Sombras alrededor, su primera exposición individual en Galería Mar Dulce, Johanna Wilhelm presenta 8 obras inéditas en papel calado, en un dégradé de tonos de blanco a negro.

Johanna Wilhelm nació en Buenos Aires en 1978.  Es artista plástica, ilustradora y diseñadora. En sus exposiciones individuales destacadas encontramos la muestra “De repente la oscuridad" junto a Alejo Petrucci  en ThisIsNotaGallery, “Soñé que dormía” en Galería Santa y más recientemente “Herbarios, Investigación y desarrollo” en Abra Galería. Participó también de muestras colectivas en galerías como Galería Mar Dulce, Sudestada, y Flora. Realizó obras comisionadas para las muestras “AMOR” y “Leopoldo Marechal” en la Casa Nacional del Bicentenario. Colaboró con varios músicos en los artes de disco, puesta en escena con proyecciones animadas en vivo o videoclips. Sobresalen las  colaboraciones con Sima, El Hipnotizador Romántico, Juana Molina o Tálata Rodríguez. También participó de la última edición de “Bellos Jueves” junto a Two Mirrors en el Museo Nacional Bellas Artes. Editó su primer libro con ilustraciones realizadas en papercut:  “Amarillo limón el Sol” para Periplo ediciones y actualmente ilustra libros para la editorial Alfaguara. Como artista de papel calado colabora en otros proyectos, como campañas de moda, publicidad, instalaciones.

Galería Mar Dulce se especializa en obras de pequeño y mediano formato de pintura, dibujo, grabado, fotografía, libros de artista y objetos, realizadas por artistas rioplatenses clásicos y contemporáneos.  Junto a Sombras alrededor presentamos +COLECTIVA36, una curaduria de obras realizadas por Daniel Garcia, Sofia Wiñazki, Carlos Bongiovanni, Sofia Noceti, Verónica Garcia, Laura Romano, Raoul Veroni, El Topo Ilustrado, Fabio Risso Pino, Lucila Dominguez, Irene Berzero, Sophie Spandonis, Ral Veroni, Andy Mermet, Cecilia Afonso Esteves, Eugenia Descalzo, Maricel Rodriguez Clarke y Pablo Bernasconi.

In the work of Johanna Wilhelm the papercut opens a pathway to a new way of seeing. Through the spaces, which guide and construct a rich and diverse visual tour, the whole ceases to be whole. An infinite universe -composed of light and shade- is formed and transformed. The artwork is the papercut that left emptiness behind, the form that filled with light in order to project itself. Just as we ourselves are constructed through the darkness. When it becomes dark, when we cannot see; devoid of images, with our eyes ajar and almost in shadows, we begin to open up. That which was lost is regenerated with blinding sense. Like rivers, the lines take form: becoming leaves, birds, flowers, bark, branches, echoes and sounds. In Shadows All Around, her first solo show in Galería Mar Dulce, Johanna Wilhelm presents 8 new works in papercut, in a dégradé of shades from white though to black.

Johanna Wilhelm was born in Buenos Aires in 1978.  She is an artist, illustrator and designer. She graduated in Graphic Design in the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Amongst her solo exhibitions, we can highlight "De repente la oscuridad" in ThisIsNotaGallery, “Soñé que dormía” in Galería Santa and -most recently- “Herbarios, Investigación y desarrollo” in Abra Galería. She has also participated in numerous collective exhibitions, such as with Galería Mar Dulce, Sudestada and Flora. She produced commisioned works for the exhibitions “AMOR” y “Leopoldo Marechal” in Casa Nacional del Bicentenario. She has collaborated with various musicians to produce the artwork for their records and live animations or videoclips for their concerts. Particularly noteworthy are her collaborations with Sima, El Hipnotizador Romántico, Juana Molina and Tálata Rodríguez. She also participated in the latest edition of the National Fine Arte Museum’s “Bellos Jueves” event, together with Two Mirrors. She edited her first book with illustrations realised in papercut: “Amarillo limón el Sol” for Periplo Ediciones and is currently illustrating books for the publishers Alfaguara. She has also collaborated with papercutting for other projects, such as fashion campaigns, advertising and installations.

Galería Mar Dulce specializes in small and medium format artwork in painting, drawing, print, photography, artists’ books and objects by classic and contemporary Argentine artists. To accompany Shadows All Around we present +COLLECTIVE36, a specially curated collection of works by Daniel Garcia, Sofia Wiñazki, Carlos Bongiovanni, Sofia Noceti, Verónica Garcia, Laura Romano, Raoul Veroni, El Topo Ilustrado, Fabio Risso Pino, Lucila Dominguez, Irene Berzero, Sophie Spandonis, Ral Veroni, Andy Mermet, Cecilia Afonso Esteves, Eugenia Descalzo, Maricel Rodriguez Clarke and Pablo Bernasconi.
