ÚLTIMAS HOJAS de Sofía Wiñazki
+COLECTIVA33

The Last Leaves, by Sofía Wiñazki
+COLLECTIVE33
16 May – 27 June 2015

Sofía Wiñazki works with organic materials that conserve something of nature: delicate papers, charcoal pencils, golden oil pastels. She has opted for the approach of ‘drawing as process’ to construct her landscapes. Lines, strokes, and other varieties of forms are chosen to deposit the material on the consciously elected support: the transparency of a window or the opacity of a carbon paper that transfers some or other araucaria tree, which due to its colour, texture or weight has attracted her attention and curiosity.

She observes those who observe or observed: from the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, the work of Vincent Van Gogh (with whom she has common concerns), the atmospheres of the Austrian Klimt, the indubitable line of Okusai and the Japanese image to the anonymous photo of a Canadian maple wood on the internet. It is a genealogy that resounds for the simplicity of its motives, the purity of its treatment and the respect for the profession of drawing, which is none other than of starting and starting again.

The permanent climate of autumn in Sofía’s work reveals the never tiring draughtsman in her: beginning and beginning again, luckily continuing to surprise us with a consistency that we have the opportunity to witness cyclically, like an autumn that appears like no other. (adapted from the catalogue text by Patricio Larrambebere.)

For her exhibition in Galería Mar Dulce, Sofia Wiñazki presents 9 new works in charcoal and oil pastel, which together form an autumnal wood in the gallery, with the last leaves just about to fall.
