Naturaleza, acuarelas de Raoul Veroni
+COLECTIVA32
28 marzo - 9 mayo 2015

Galería Mar Dulce is 5 years old! And we’re celebrating with an exhibition of
watercolours by the father figure of our gallery, Raoul Veroni (Milan, 1913 -
Buenos Aires, 1992).
Every indication is that the watercolours of Raoul Veroni had no end other than sheer pleasure. The majority,
produced in the coastal holiday resort of Villa Gesell in the 1970s, are
delicate paintings in paper, representations of leaves, fruits and flowers. The
works were lightly sketched out directly in ink, with the extra fine line of
the fountain pen, before colour was added from a little palette of
watercolours. The exhibition title, Nature, makes reference both to
Veroni’s love of working directly in the outdoors and to his personal nature as
reflected in these works: quiet and reserved but with an intense passion. The
25 works that form the present exhibition have never before been exhibited.
Raoul Veroni was born in Milan, Italy, in 1913. He studied at Fine
Art School in Buenos Aires. Between 1936 and 1961 he collaborated as a printer
of special editions in the workshops of Francisco Colombo. In 1936, 1937, 1938
y 1939 he was awarded the Printmaking Prize of the Argentine Salón de
Acuarelistas, Pastelistas y Grabadores, and in 1941 the Acquisition Prize of
the Santa Fé Salón. Despite his early recognition and success he purposefully
distanced himself from prizes and salons and for the following 40 years
dedicated himself to the production of special editions for bibliophiles. In
1943 he began producing his own editions under the collections Urania and La Cabellera. In 1960 he established his own print workshop thanks to
grants from the Italian government and the FNA (Argentine National Fine Art
Fund). In the 1970s he began to regularly work on his watercolours of leaves,
fruits and flowers. In1974 the Argentine Pen Club paid homage to his published
work. In 1984 he was invited to exhibit alongside Libero Badi in the 10th
Argentine Book Fair. In 2007, fifteen years after his death, the exhibition Artists and Bibliophiles presented his
work and that of his son, Ral Veroni, in the 33rd Argentine Book
Fair. In 2012 the Museo del Libro y de la lengua created the exhibition The
Book As Art, in homage to him and also produced a documentary film of the same
name.
Galería Mar Dulce specializes in small and medium format artwork in painting,
drawing, print, photography, artists’ books and objects by classic and
contemporary Argentine artists. To accompany Nature, we present
