El Topo Ilustrado nació «como esas casualidades que no existen». El artista Cristian Turdera y el escritor Tobías Schleider se conocieron en Twitter en el 2012 y de inmediato decidieron trabajar juntos en ese medio virtual. Desde marzo de 2013, de lunes a viernes, publicaron en @ElTopoIlustrado una frase ilustrada, hasta completar 120 viñetas bilingües (castellano-inglés). En poco tiempo, llegaron a tener más de 25.000 seguidores.
Como escribe el propio Schleider, El Topo Ilustrado no es fácil de clasificar. Por una parte, es un compendio de frases ilustradas acerca del cuerpo y la mente, el amor y la soledad, los misterios falsos y las soluciones fallidas, la quietud y el tiempo, el instinto y la filosofía. Por otra, es una colección de historias pequeñas aunque inabarcables en potencia. Pero también es una especie de guía caótica para resolver problemas inexistentes y un proyecto sobre la trascendencia de lo cotidiano. Los textos preceden a las imágenes pero los dibujos a veces alcanzan dimensiones inesperadas y otros se meten donde las letras no podían ir. La amalgama de las palabras y los trazos, en efecto, causa un material distinto. El fruto del encuentro entre estos dos trabajadores de la creatividad es, en palabras de Daniel Molina, «la obra de arte futura»: nunca concretada, siempre en proceso.
Para la muestra en Galería Mar Dulce, El Topo Ilustrado presenta una selección de 20 obras producidas como ediciones limitadas de diez ejemplares en giclée sobre papel de algodón. Se agregarán bocetos originales y otros elementos de la producción de la serie, para invitar al espectador a entrar en la cabeza de El Topo Ilustrado y en el proceso mismo de la creatividad. Coincide con la exposición la publicación del libro El Topo Ilustrado, Vol. 1 (Ediciones de La Flor, 2014) que estará en una preventa exclusiva en Galería Mar Dulce. Cristian Turdera (Buenos Aires, 1973) es artista, ilustrador y diseñador. Publicó más de veinte libros. Su obra fue exhibida alrededor del mundo, en muestras como: Monsters Adventure Park Exhibition (Kaohsiung, Taiwan, 2014), 7x7 Exhibition (Herbal Hill Building, Londres, Gran Bretaña, 2013), Sofía Design Week (Sofía, Bulgaria, 2013), Photoville (Brooklyn - Nueva York EE. UU. 2013), Papel picado, con el artista Diego Bianki (Plop Galería, Santiago, Chile, 2011), Amos del Jardín, con la artista María Elina Méndez (Galería Mar Dulce, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012), The Character Compendium - Pictoplasma (Museum la Gaîté Lyrique, París, Francia, 2011), Le immagini della fantasia (Sàrmede, Italia, 2009), Bologna Children's Book Fair (Bolonia, Italia, 2008). Trabaja para agencias publicitarias, revistas, diarios y editoriales.
Tobías Schleider (Mar del Plata, 1972) es lector, autor y traductor. Transita, de modo alternativo o simultáneo, la ficción, la poesía y el ensayo. Doctor en Filosofía del Derecho, es docente e investigador, en Argentina y el exterior, sobre problemas vinculados con la responsabilidad, la acción humana, la causalidad y la suerte. Ha publicado trabajos académicos y de divulgación, filosóficos y literarios, para niños y adultos. Su último libro es Otros cuentos y otros cuentos (Hecho Atómico Ediciones, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2013). Desde 2011, comparte formas breves de literatura en Twitter bajo el seudónimo El Topo Erudito. Sus mayores cuentan que aprendió a leer antes que a caminar. Él suele replicar que cuando se trata de viajes, los ojos valen tanto como los pies.
Galería Mar Dulce se especializa en obras de pequeño y mediano formato de pintura, dibujo, grabado, fotografía, libros de artista y objetos, realizadas por artistas rioplatenses clásicos y contemporáneos. Junto a El Topo Ilustrado presentamos +COLECTIVA26, una curaduria de obras realizadas por Irana Douer, María Elina Méndez, Ana Paula Méndez, Decur, Tulio de Sagastizábal, Cecilia Afonso Estéves, Guillermina Baiguera, Daniel García, Lola Goldstein, Margarita Ezcurra, María Wernicke, Johanna Wilhelm, Pablo Bernasconi, Daniel Santoro, Raoul Veroni, Isol, Christian Montenegro, Leopoldo Torres Agüero, Ashley Cook y Ral Veroni.

El Topo Ilustrado ('The Illustrated Mole' would be its English title, if such a title weren't so awfully ambiguous) was born from improbable happenstance. The artist Cristian Turdera and the writer Tobías Schleider met on Twitter in 2012 and decided right away to create something together. From March 2013, every weekday they published an illustrated phrase in the account @ElTopoIlustrado, until they reached one hundred and twenty bilingual vignettes (English-Spanish). Soon they had gained more than 25,000 followers.
In Schleider’s own words, categorizing El Topo Ilustrado would probably be hard. On one hand, it is a compendium of illustrated phrases about body and mind, love and solitude, false mysteries and failed answers, stillness and time, intuition and philosophy. On another, it is a collection of tiny but potentially boundless stories. But it is also some kind of a chaotic guide for solving nonexistent problems and a project about the transcendence of the quotidian. The texts always precede the images yet the drawings sometime reach unexpected dimensions, or sneak in where the letters can't fit. The fusion of words and strokes causes, in effect, a different material. The fruit of this creative collaboration is, in the words of Daniel Molina, “the perfect work of the work of art of the future: never fixed, always in process.”

Added to this are original sketches and other elements of production that invite the viewer to enter into the (virtual) head of El Topo Ilustrado and into the process of creativity itself. The publication of the bilingual English-Spanish book El Topo Ilustrado, Vol. 1 (Ediciones de La Flor, 2014) coincides with the exhibition and the book will be on sale exclusively in Galería Mar Dulce prior to its formal launch. Cristian Turdera (Buenos Aires, 1973) is an artist, illustrator and designer. He also works for advertising agencies, magazines, newspapers and publishers in various countries.
Tobías Schleider (Mar del Plata, 1972) is a reader, author and translator. He works across fiction, poetry and essays, alternatively or often simultaneously. A PhD in the Philosophy of Law, he also works in Argentina and abroad as a lecturer and researcher on problems related to responsibility, human action, causation and luck. He has published academic, investigative, philosophical and literary works for adults and children. His most recent publication is Otros cuentos y otros cuentos (Hecho Atómico Ediciones, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2013). Since 2011 he has shared brief literary forms on Twitter under the pseudonym @ElTopoErudito. His parents say that he learned to read before he could walk and when it comes to journeys he likes to say that the eyes are as important as the feet.
