Of Solitary Musicians and Migratory Birds

"There are days in which I get up confidently and feel myself complete and draw, draw, draw in celebration of this. There are days in which I don’t know my own name and draw, draw, draw to try and remember. I hastily return to certain subjects...birds, little devils, musicians...I work upon every kind of paper and aim for my drawings to give the clear sensation that anyone could do them. I dislike ‘artificial fireworks’ being applied to communication. From my reading of Josep Pla I became conscious of the importance of silence and the madness of depriving others of it...yet I still continue shouting, rebelling and commiting the error of telling others how they should do things. Me, who makes a mistake at every move... Luckily this exhibition shows the more absurd and poetic facet of my work, perhaps because it allows me to make contact with things I hold dear...

In this series of works I take a wander through some of my favourite terrain: that of birds, musicians, improvisation, blank papers waiting to be drawn on, printed papers waiting to be drawn on. In Solitary Musicians I play with the possibilities of improvisation, constructing poems that almost immediately run off track, their themes and contents becoming lost. In Migratory Birds I reflect on the forces of nature that cause the routine migration of certain species and investigate the graphic possibilities of maps taken from old dictionaries, outdated in geopolitical terms but still faithful in their presentation of the terrain."
