Victor Rebuffo nació en 1903 en Turín, Italia. Se radicó a Buenos Aires en 1906, ciudad donde fallece en 1983. Pintor y grabador. Estudió en la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes y fue Director de Grabado del Instituto de Arte de la Universidad de Tucumán. Su obra fue vasta, pero se destacó sobre todo por sus xilografías y grabados, de gran contenido social y político. Ilustró numerosos libros y revistas de diversas editoriales y, en 1979, publicó Contraluz, libro que cuenta una historia a través de 130 xilografías, realizadas entre 1952 y 1953. Entre sus trabajos se destacan Verónica proletaria (1933), El pan (1936), España 1936 (1939), Hombre y ciudad (1950), El caído (1955) y Villa de emergencia (1982). Obtuvo las máximas recompensas en todos los salones nacionales y provinciales y Medalla de Bronce en la Exposición Internacional de Bruselas en 1958.
Victor Rebuffo was born in 1903 in Turin, Italy. He moved to Buenos Aires in 1906, where he later died in 1983. He studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and was the Director of Printmaking at the Unversity of Tucumán. He was an extremely prolific painter and printmaker, but his most outstanding works are in his woodcuts with a political or social context. He also illustrated numerous books and magazines, in 1979 publishing Contraluz, a beautiful edition of 130 woodcuts from between 1952 and 1953, realised from the original plates. Some of his best known works include Verónica proletaria (1933), El pan (1936), España 1936 (1939), Hombre y ciudad (1950), El caído (1955) and Villa de emergencia (1982). His work was recognised with the highest of awards in the provincial and national salóns and in 1958 he was awarded the Bronze Medal in the Brussels International Exhibition.
